School magazine success criteria

School Magazine Assessment Criteria

Producing material appropriate for the target audience and task:

I feel that the material that I have produced is appropriate for my target audience and task because it is appropriate for 16-17 year olds and in Sixth Form. The key and main colours of red, blue and black show that it is a school magazine, as it is the main colours of Sponne School. Also the main image of the magazine is of a student (which you can tell by the books next to her tell you that she is studying).

Showing understanding of conventions of layout and page design:
I have understood the conventions of the page design and layout of a magazine as it shows on my main and contents pages. I have no empty spaces and my sub-headings go to the sides and try not to overlap the main image. My magazine has two banners (one at the top and one at the bottom, t also has kept the colour theme along with the use of different fonts and that the picture is relevant to the topic or intended audience.

Showing awareness of the need for variety in fonts and text size

I have understood in my magazine the awareness of the needs for different fonts and sizes as it shows on my magazine. I have used a wide variety of fonts and to not use the same ones as it makes the magazine seem boring and it doesn’t separate the different storylines on their own. By using dafont on the internet I have included a wide range of fonts to make each story stand out, and with the different sizes I have made them some similar and some maybe big than others.

Accurately using language and register

I have shown accurate use of language and register in my magazine. The language that I have used for my magazine is appropriate for my target audience as it relates to school and what the students would do. Such as school dinners and interview with sixth form head, it all relates to them. In terms of register I have used specific school settings to make my magazine interesting such as including different stories to make the audience (target audience) more appealed to it and wanting to continue reading on.

Using ICT appropriately for the task set

I have shown that I have used ICT appropriately for the task set. I have mainly used fireworks and the internet (dafont) for this task as getting different fonts and titles from the internet and then using fireworks to crop and fix my image. For example my main image I took it on my Canon 1100D camera, then I uploaded it on to my computer and I imported it onto fireworks. I then started to use the magic wand tool to delete stuff of my image that wasn’t necessary and when it couldn’t do enough I began to crop it using the Laso tool and then using the rubber tool and erasing the excess bits on the photo that weren’t cropped. I would do this also for my font titles, as I would use the magic wand tool on the white bits on a transparent page and then I would fill the letters with a different colour if I wanted to.

Appropriately integrating illustration and text

I have appropriately used illustration and text for my product and task that was set. My different fonts that I have used make it interesting for the audience to want to carry on reading and it separates them without having the same font, so it can make then individually unique and the text that contain little add-ons to explain them more that it shows on the contents page.

Shooting a variety of material appropriate to the task set

The material that I have used/ shot is appropriate for the task set. On my magazine’s cover page it shows a student studying with books by her side, this is appropriate and that it tells what it is intend for is because she is surrounded by study books and also paper to write in for homework, this is what other similar students would be doing as well (studying for a big test or for coursework for their subjects.

Manipulating photographs as appropriate for the context for presentation, including cropping and resizing

The photo that I have used to manipulate is appropriate to the context for presentation, including cropping and resizing, because for my photo I used fireworks to help me with this. I used the Magic Wand, Laso, Rubber and fill tools to help me achieve my photo. I used magic wand to delete stuff of my image that wasn’t relevant of needed and when it couldn’t do enough I began to crop it using the Laso tool and then the rubber tool to erase the excess bits on the photo that weren’t cropped. I also did this for my font titles, as I used magic wand on the white bits on a transparent page and then I would fill the letters with a different colour if I wanted to.
